Good articles, Linda!
I have a 15yo son who was born with ULCP/PRS.
It was not until 2007 and four kids later that my wife and I discovered the research about folic acid potentially negating cleft. None of my other children were born with cleft.
Apparently, according to the study, 0.4mg of folic acid daily is enough.
I am not convinced that this is the "silver bullet" solution against the possibility of a cleft, but the results of the studies seem to strongly support the theory.
We found this information on the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (
http://www.niehs.nih.gov); I believe there is also a link on one of your article links.
Regards,
Gregory
