Avery Elizabeth is now 6 months and just had her cosmetic lip and nose surgery. It's been a long haul. She was a very fussy baby in the early months and had reflux We did the NAM- nasal Alveolar Molding device in her mouth for 3 months and this did wonders for her nose and helped with feeding. She had an adhesion surgery- ( partial fix) at 3 months and now just had the real cosmetic lip and nose surgery. Her palate repair will be in Jan when she is one year old. She is doing well and looks great.

I need some advice on massage and creams for the scar. I am hearing all sorts of things so I am assuming there are more than one way get the job done. Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks- Michelle[/img]

Awww...another Avery!

Our PS told us to get pure vitamin E oil (at any health store/GNC) to massage into Avery's lip daily. I confess we have not done it as often as we should but it has really helped to keep it soft and supple as it heals. We had lip/nose repair in January and just had palate surgery July 9th.

Good luck!

I was a cleft child myself and I'm now 19 years old and completely done with all my surgries. If you do get the Vitamin E lotion is will help as long as you remember to do it daily. I didn't. So in one of my later surgeries they cut out the excess scaring. So it is alright to forget a little. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Scar Massage

Postby LanesMemee » Mon Jul 28, 2008 1:26 pm

There are several different products out there. Everyone has an opinion. We bought into the hype of Creme de la mer ($375), which may work wonders, but its all we used so we have nothing to compare it to. My friend used Ped Mederma, that worked great as well. The most important part is the actual act of the massage I believe.
