My 7 year old son born with a cleft lip, now needs orthodontic
theropy and a bone graft. We have submitted a request to our
insurance company for both procedures. The bone graft was
authorized but the orthodontic theropy was turned down because
our policy dos not coner dental. We explained to the insurance
company this is part of the medical management for a cleft
lip/palate patient. They still will not cover the work. Does
anyome have any suggestions/information or a letter drafted that
has worked for them. Please help. I can also be e-mailed at

o.k. I'm going to try this again. I tried to answer your
question earlier but it didn't post. As a mother of two boys with
cleft lip and palate this question has come up often. The state
of Florida currently has a bill that is expected to pass
requiring insurance companies to pay for all aspects of cleft lip
and palate repair including orthodontic work. The bill was
started by a high school student in south florida that has a
cleft lip and palate. He is currently the number one high school
debater in the country. Pretty amazing huh? Contact the Florida
legislature and see what is going on. someone up there should be
able to send you a copy of the bill so that something could be
started in your own state. let me know how it goes and good luck.
