Cleft palate repair

I'm an adult born with a cleft palate and is scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks. The doctor is talking about doing something call Pharyngeal Flap. Does anyone has any experience with this type of surgery, what are the side effects and how much improvement does this surgery has on speech (at an adult age?).
