Bone Graft Surgery for Adults

Postby am gula » Fri Jan 23, 1998 1:00 pm

I had a bone graft operation to close the fistulae about 3
years ago. The bone was rejected, and most was expelled. I am
getting many recommendations from various surgeons,
orthodontists, etc, to have it done again.

Can anyone tell me if he or she has had a bone grafting as an
adult and if it was sucessful. If not, what happened, and if
another surgery was needed. Also, if there are any bi-lateral
cleft palate persons who never had a bone graft, but the
pre-maxilla is retained in a stable condition.

All information will be GREATLY appreciated. AM

i received a bone graft during the ages of 16 and 17. The frt
one was not sufficient and I therefore needed a second graft. I
am pleased as I am about to receive implants insread of my
bridge. You can e-mail me any questions to

Hi, I had a bone graft performed when I was 17, not exactly an
adult, but I was fully formed. And it took beautifully, however
according to my doctor, this is not always the case. The second
time is often the more successful graft. I know it's not exactly
fun, but if you do decide to go ahead and do it, best of luck!

I also had bone graft surgery- hip to jaw- as a result of a
fall in Feb '97. I lost 7 teeth and can't wait to get "real
teeth" 8 surgeries just in 1998, plus one today!!! email if
you want to discuss experiences. BrendaSta@aol.com

I am wondering whether to have an alveolar bone graft to repair the palete. I never had one as a child. I would like to hear from another adult who has had one. Also does it effect your speech?

Thanks
Lois
