do not take milk after palate surgery

Postby carol07 » Tue Aug 26, 2008 11:22 am

My daughter had her palate surgery last Tuesday. It's been 7 days that she does not take any milk nor pumped breast milk nor formula. She has lost 1 pound in 7 days. She takes about 4 oz yogurt and thinned rice cereal and jar chicken every day. Any idea that I can feed her more milk? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there, our little one drank the clear pedilyte the first few days and after a while went to pedisure. In case you have not tried it, might I suggest using breastmilk or formula with the rice cereal to give it some extra calories. Our experience was that the doctor was more concerned about dehydration than weight loss those first few weeks but I would check with your surgeon's office just to make sure. I wish you all the best; those first days (couple weeks) following surgery are difficult - hang in there. Heide
