AGE FOR SOFT PALATE REPAIR?

Postby michellebeau » Sat Dec 01, 2007 9:35 pm

[/b] Could someone please tell me the average age for soft palate repair surgery? Our daughter's oral surgeon said he'd like to do it at 10 months. It seems like a looooong wait. Our daughters 6th months right now. Thanks. Michelle

Jackson's hard and soft palate were involved, and our PS wouldn't fix it until 10 months. I squeaked him by at 9 months and 3 weeks! We did meet with one doctor who would do it at 6 months, but we didn't feel like he was right for us. He just did a straight suture down the middle, and the PS we used uses the Furlow Method with a Z shaped incision. (not sure how they repair it with just the soft plate involved) The Furlow method is supposed to have less chance of a fistula, and improve the speech outcome. They are all so different...makes it hard to keep everything straight!
