No sense of smell

Hi everyone,
I am new to this group. I am trying to learn how to navigate and do searches. So if something has been discussed I apologize but I couldn't find it.
Anyway I am a 48 year old male. I was born with a cleft lip. There was no known history in either of my parents. I am now the father of three children. A 22 yo daughter, a 21 yo son, and a 11 yo son. None were born with a cleft lip or palate.
Neither of my sons has a sense of smell. With the older one we went to a number of local doctors and specialists. He had MRI's and Cat scans. No one had an answer. We traveled across the country to have tests ran with no real conclusion. Then when the second son was also determined to have anosmia also we began looking at what could be the cause. There seems to only be two items. One genetics. They had inherited a defective gene from me. I have a normal sense of smell but the gene that caused the cleft lip in myself could have caused anosmia in them.
The only other common factor seems to be that they both had their adenoids removed.
Granted they have both been raised in the same environment. Have the same mother and father. My daughter has also. And she does not have this condition.
I just thought I would ask if any of you that may be adults with a cleft lip or palate that have children if you have found this. Or any of you with children have found this.
