Hi all,
i haven't posted on here for a long time, but i just wanted to let those of you who are just setting out on the terrifying journey of the unknown, know our success story.javascript:emoticon(':D')
Very Happy
my daughter was diagnosed with a submucous soft cleft pallet when she was 2 1/2 years old.javascript:emoticon(':(')
Sad
we awaited surgery, which as many of you know is not nice, but also not as bad as i thought it would be. children are amazingly resilient, and she coped very well. she was more annoyed with the pureed foods for a month!!!!! op was nov 2005javascript:emoticon(':|')
Neutral
it has now been a while since her op, and she had a second lot of gromits put in at the end of 2006.
from not speaking at all, and having considerable hearing probs--glue ear,
she has become outgoing, sociable and never stops talking.she has started nursry, sings songs and is just like any other 4 year old.
in fact you wouldn't even know what she has been through.
so, to all of those of you who are just starting on this journey--IT IS WORTH IT, AND THEY DO COPE--i think it's more us as the parents that suffer--a few more grey hairs!!!!!!
Even the speech therapist is overjoyed with her progress.
SO IN ALL-IT DOES GET BETTERjavascript:emoticon(':)')
Smile
JUST HANG IN THERE.
