Post Surgery: Feeding

Postby jaimea » Thu Jan 25, 2007 6:21 am

I have a 15 month old, Kaylee, we just completed our 3rd reconstructive surgery. After each surgery we have been instructed to feed with the syringe only. This usually lasts for two weeks, which we follow religiously. I've seen other posts on here relating to the child being given their bottle hours after surgery. Just wondering if this is standard practice, or is our surgeon extremely strict?

We fed by syringe only until about a week after his surgery. Then we fed with his "special bottle" I can not remember the name of it, but it had a valve in it so he didn't have to suck. Once he was all healed we went to a regular bottle, I just made the hole in the nipple a little big bigger. Then after a while we just used regular nipples. The Playtex drop in bottles were the ones we used. I think the shape of the nipple was easy for my son to use. We tried other bottles and he had trouble with them.
