soft cleft palate repair done

Postby Daddy's butterfly » Sat Dec 16, 2006 10:37 pm

Hi everyone! Gabriella had her cleft palate surgery on December 13. She had very little swelling. Unfortunately, the feeding are not going so well. Gabriella is having so much pain with swallowing she refuses to drink anything. We have to force syringe feed her. It breaks my heart. Does anyone have advise on feedings? She appears to be comfortable whenever she is not feeding. I'm not sure how long the healing process will take. I'm hoping in the morning she'll take the sippy cup on her own.

Skylar didn't eat much when she had her palate surgery done. I think she only had about 6 ounces a day for 2-3 days after we came home. Alot of times because of the surgery I think they just aren't hungry either. The few times I had surgery I hadn't wanted to eat a great deal afterwards. I hope she eats more for you. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you, but Skylar went through the same thing after her surgery.
