NO INSURANCE OR COVERAGE PLEASE HELP!!!

Postby PAULETTE INC » Wed Mar 17, 1999 9:55 am

We are a family of seven, one of our children was born with a
bilateral cleft lip and palate. He is 11 years old and still has
a lot of operations ahead. We just got informed a couple days ago
that Children with Special Health Crae Needs in Madison, Wi had
been cancelled as a program to help cleft kids. My husband and I
both have good average job, but we don't make enough to be able
to afford health insurance, but we make too much to qualify for
state assistance and may other programs. We have waited for nine
and a half months for my sons orthodontic treatment to start and
his first appointment is next month, and we just got notified that
there would be no-one to cover this so we need to cancel this
appointment and delay all further operations until we can afford
insurnce. We would love to be able to whip out a couple thousand
but this just isn't possible. If we delay my sons operations and
much needed orthodontic care, which is needed at this time before
any other operations can be done,(relining teeth and the jaw
etc.)he will end up being 16 before anything is done and that
will leave a bigger emotional scar than any operation ever could.
We want only the best for him and it seems like we are stuck
between a rock and a hard place. Does anyone know where we could
find some very much needed help and real fast??? Thank you for
listening and any help you could give ,this is just so
frustrating,,and to make it even worse I was unofficially told by
my sons cleft social worker that I should consider quitting my
job in order to have my son covered under the state??? please
HELP US!!!!!!!!

Have you considered checking with the Shriners? They do all
kinds of medical procedures for those without insurance. Find
your local Shriners club and ask how to contact someone
concerning clefts. There are a lot of people who have used their
services and have many good things to say about them. My son is 1
yr old and has a uclp. We do have insurance, but also considered
Shriners too. Good luck and e-mail me private if you'd like.

Maybe, you should consider taking your son to Shriners. I took
my son there to have his lip repaired and they did a terrific
job. They have some of the best surgeons there. I know there is
one in Chicago and one in Springfield, ma that deals with cleft
related surgeries.

We were in that same boat ourselves at one time and now we are
back there. My son was born with a cleft palate and lip. THe
medical expenses about drove us crazy, till we found a group
called CIDC. They pick up the rest of the bill after your
insurance pays or if your don't have insurance they pay. If you
need someone to just talk to I would love to be our friend. You
can e mil me at queensheets@netzero.net

Reguarding CIDC?? What is this????

Thanks so much for your response. What I'm wondering is what
is CIDC??? I've been in contact with the shriners about two
months ago, but still no response. I understand that it takes
time, but I'm really beginning to worry about the health and
physical happiness of my son . As time goes by and he gets
further from the schedule of surgeries, and no help is in sight,
I worry about his state of mind, fitting into middle school,
peers, social acceptance etc. I went through all of this and DO
NOT want to see my son go through it if at all possible ya
know!!! Sorry to ramble, but I'm sooooo worried, and the medical
bills just keep stacking up. Thanks for your ears and your
heart!!!
