Dino Joseph is here!!!!

Postby pkett2 » Fri Oct 06, 2006 10:18 pm

He is here & we feel a miracle happened! He was born Thursday at 4:05 a.m. 6lbs 12oz. He only has a incomplete unilateral cleft lip. His palate is fine & he is nursing great! We are so happy, all of those prayers helped. We think he is just beautiful! All the nurses at the hospital were calling him the elvis baby. They made me feel good, all he has is a little notch in his lip. I was really expecting his cleft to be alot worse. I'm just so happy he is here. It was really hard not knowing ( I know everyone here knows the feeling). I going to go to bed, I'm exhausted!!!! I couldn't wait to share my news with you!

He is adorable! Enjoy every minute. Did they know before he was born that it was incomplete? How about the palette? I am due in January and they told me it is a complete unilateral cleft lip and palette. Just wondering how accurate the diagnosis.

Thanks!

jstupak,
We did not know if it was complete or if the palate was affected or not. The U/S picture looked like the separation went all the way up to the nose. We could see that his nostrils weren't the same in size. My Dr. & the baby's Dr. all said you aren't going to know for sure until he is born. They are right, I sat there and tried to compare my baby's U/S picture to other pictures to try to find out for myself what he might look it. When he was born we were surprised and happy that he looked alot better than what we thought. It is really nice to have the not knowing part over with. I felt so helpless, not being able to do anything about it. We are still not out of the woods yet. I still have to go meet with the surgeon and have x-rays and testing done. Has anyone had just an incomplete cleft lip & still have to have surgery on the palate, gum line or even bone structure behind the nose?

Good luck to you jstupak! It will all work out like it is for all of us.
P.S. I did find that it has been easy showing him off, because I told everyone about his cleft before I had him. Everyone seems to be happy & relieved for us. Instead of being sad that the baby was born with a birth defect.

Dino looks like he is a very healthy baby.

As everyone pinpointed, his cleft lip is barely noticable. I hope that everything goes well with the tests and x-rays.

Furthermore, based on your responses, I think that you are one of the most prepared parents I know and this amazes me.

Keep us updated
