Adult looking for answers!

Postby Darci » Sat Mar 06, 1999 9:15 pm

I am a 30 yr old female who has had many, many a surgury for
cleft lip and palate. My last surgery was at the age of 15 yrs.
Shortly after I lost my mother, being my only parent I have not
had alot of answers about this defect nor have I had questions
until recent. I went to my doctor for a lingering cold and cough.
At that time he had taken chest and nose xrays. The cold turned
out to be a cold. However, he voiced serious concern with a
deviated septum. The left side of my nose is completely blocked.
So yet again I am off to specialist and according to my family
doctor more surgery. Past surgery has proven to be great as for
as appearance goes. Most people can hardly tell. I am concerned
however for this the second time they will have to redue what I
thought was already done. I am just curious if this 16th
operation is nessesary and if any other adults have had similar
outcomes.

If your deviated septum is causing problems such as breathing,
snoring, sinus, etc. I would recommend having it fixed. I had
mine done around 16 and I may have it done again, due to the fact
that I'm still having the above problems(I'm 25). I don't think
that there are any visible effects since it is inside the nose.
