Pierre Robin and Educational Difficulties

Can anyone help with PRS and Educational Difficulites. I have
a 10 year old daughter with Specific and General Learning
Difficulties. Are these related? Does anyone else find PRS and
Dyslexia are commonly found together?

I just read your question concerning PRS & Learning
Difficulties. My son's story (Theodoros) is on this site & he
has PRS, but at 2 years of age has shown himself to be very
clever. I am also a special education teacher with 9+ years
experience and I have never found a child with facial
abnormalities to have particular problems learning. As far as
what we know about PRS, it only affects one physically, not
mentally. If your daughter has a learning disability it does not
mean that her mental capacity is less. To qualify for LD
(Learning Disabled) services you must have a normal IQ. In my
experience PRS & learning difficulties are not related. I
hope I have helped a little.

Also, if your daughter does have a learning disability I
would be wary of anyone who wants to place her on medication. I
have seen too many children in public schools on medication these
days. Behavior modification is a much better approach in my
opinion as a teacher.

Good luck.
