crossed eyes???

Postby Kara » Mon Dec 21, 1998 6:52 pm

My son is three months old and was born with a cleft lip and
palate. Lately is eye on the side of his face that his cleft was,
has been going crossed. Does this have anything to do with the
cleft lip/palate?

Hi. I am a mom to 4 kids- 3 with cleft lip and palate. I would
say it could be related, but not necessarily. Sometimes things
just happen. I have one of mine that has a condition called
strabismus- where the eye muscles don't function properly. Give
your little one a little more time and let your doctor know about
your concerns.

Good luck!! Happy Holidays!!!!!

I'm 25 and was born with both cleft lip and cleft palate. When
you say "crossed" do you mean it's always inward or
does it wander around? My right eye is what's called "lazy
eye" and used to wander around...got worse as I got older
until I had an operation to fix the muscles.

As far as I know there is no relation...just a coincidence

Yes it most likey so. I my self am clef also and I was crossed
eyed when I was born. After surgery, they were corrected
somewhat. One is pretty straight and the other one looks to the
right some. After years I have learned to control the other some
that it is not as noticibile
