Hidden Palate?

Postby Amber S. » Mon Sep 21, 1998 7:36 pm

Both my grandfather and cousin have cleft lip and palate, so
it runs in the family. Are there different degrees of severity?
When getting bracies in high scholl, my dentist noticed that my
palate curves down instead of up, and the two bones are next to
each other, but never fully fused together. There is a small
split in the skin where these bones come together, but I don't
think it goes all the way through. I also have a smaller jaw,
which was corrected with orthodontics. Mild disfluency, nasal
drainage problems, and ear fluid are chronic. No one has ever
brought up the possibility of partial clefts. Is there such a
thing?. Does anyone have information? Please contact me at

hello, well yes to answer your question there are severities
of cleft's this I found out only because my daughter was born
with a mild imcomplete cleft lip which means her lip curves up
and she has a scar also her nose slightly flat. Im told this is
the mildest case of clefting. There is lots of information on the
web concerning severity of clefts its very helpful it was to me.

I have the same thing that you have except that my palate curves upward as it should. Alas, I have a cleft hard palate that is covered over by the skin ands technically it is a submucous cleft hard palate. I also have a microform cleft lip which is on the right side of my upper lip.
