Cleft Lip/Palate & Midline Pituitary Problems

Postby J&L » Sat Jan 20, 2001 1:16 pm

Our 2 1/2 yr daughter was born with bilateral cleft palate and unilateral cleft lip which have both been corrected. The surgeon has done a wonderful job. Her speech is developing fine, with some needed therapy on her bilabial sounds. At the age of three weeks she was diagnosed with panhypopituitarism, a condition common of children born with clefts. She is taking synthroid (thyroid medication), cortizol and growth hormone injection because she cannot produce these hormones herself. From time to time she has suffered from low blood sugar. Anyone out there have any experience with panhypopituitarism in cleft children? Prognosis later in life? Much appreciated.
