Submucous cleft palate

Postby Lori » Wed Jan 17, 2001 7:26 am

My daughter is 5 years old and has a submucous cleft palate. We are still awaiting a decision as to do surgery or not from her doctors. She is in speech therapy and still has a lot of difficulties. I need help from anyone who has a child with a submucous cleft - I have not spoken to anyone with the same condition. Please contact me - lormar3@aol.com

Our 3 yr. old son has a submucous cleft. He also
has a cross-bite. He has some speech difficulties.
We will be getting him evaluated.

I am curious to know if your daughter has had surgery for her submucous cleft and how it has turned out and if it made a diference. My daughter is 4 1/2 years old and is in the process of getting ready to have surgery...going through exams, etc now. We are aware the surgery is pretty painful and recovery is long. I am curious to hear from anyone whos child has had the surgery and how it made a difference. I am all for the surgery if it will make a difference in her talking.
