pre & post op preparations for cleft lip

my baby (into 6 weeks) can suck well using normal bottles & teats but my plastic surgeon says to use the SOFTPLAS bottle.
This is very taxing for her as she has nothing to suck on to produce the milk flow.
I have delayed using this bottle but it is supposed to help post-operatively as it will not cause tension on sutures while normal sucking will.
What are your experiences?
She'll be due for surgery when she's 3 months old.
