My daughter was born April 18, 1999 with a cleft lip.
She had her surgery when she was six months old. Emotionally I was confident in the
surgeon, but I just wanted to sleep through the whole thing.
I was scared! This was my baby, we had already been with her for six
months and weren't about to let anything happen to her.
Well, when it was all said and done I was amazed. She was so
different, even just minutes after the surgery.
It was tough to see her in pain, and the feeding was a real challenge.
After a week things got alot better, she was eating with a bottle again
and was playing and crawling (with supervision of course, don't want any falls).
Don't worry, if your confident in your doctor you'll be fine. Be Strong!
P.S. I have a six year old step son. He was very anxious to see his new baby sister
after she was fixed. We just explaned to him that Hailey was
born with a small owee, and the doctor was going to
put some stiches and a big band aid and then his sister was going to be all better.
You know your child, how they are emotionally. Just explain it however you
think that they will understand.
