Nose Repair and surgery

Postby tagcc4@aol.com » Wed Jan 05, 2000 2:06 pm

Hi,
My 13 yeard old dauther has had her surgery to repair
her cleft lip and palate, I would like any help and information
on fixing her nose. Her left nostril droops. I would like info on
insurance coverage and age they should have the surgery. I would
like for her to have this done ASAP since she is entering into
the High School years. Thank you in advance.

Hi,
I'm sorry I can't help you with the insurance part but I can tell that as far as getting surgery for her nose, that it might be a good idea for you to wait until her body as stopped or comes close to fully growing. That way, you wont have that risk of having extra surgery due to growth. My doctors advised me of that. I was 17 before I had my nose worked on. At that time, I had pretty much stopped growing. Be advised that sometimes, even with the surgery, she may have to do it again because the nasal passage may close up do to scar tissue. That is what happend to me and I just had my nose worked on again in November of 99. So far everything is doing well this time. Good luck.
