seeking understanding about craniofacial differences

I am a writer working on an article for a family magazine,
about children with facial differences. I would like to
understand more about the effects of facial differences and the
surgeries they require. Would anyone share with me thoughts or
experiences that would help my article educate the public? I
already get the feeling that more public understanding is
needed--I am appalled at some of the stories of cruelty I've
