My son will be having palate surgery at the end of May and I
was just wanting some input on how to make him more comfortable.
Also should I be concerned that I don't have a cleft team?

I found that the most comforting thing I could do for my
daughter after her palate surgery was to be with her and sleep at
the hospital. If at all possible that would really help your
child.

You just need to be there for him. If you can stay at the
hospital with him. Let him eat all the ice cream and puddding and
jello that he wants. Take his favorite toy, stuffed
annimal,blanket or whatever else he likes. I found that when my
son had a few things from home at the hospital he did better. If

When my son Mikey had his palate fixed in January, I didn't
have a team either. Just a plastic surgeon and it went over
better than ever. I chose not to have a cleft team, because when
my son had his lip done we had a team, and they wanted all this
unnecessary stuff done. How old is your son. Mikey was 9 months,
so we just went to the hospital, and after surgery, I went in
recovery and held him until he woke up. It was not as bad as
everyone makes you think it is.
