Plastic surgeon vs oral surgeon for bone graft

My 7 yr. old daughter has a repaired unilateral cleft lip/palate.
She sees a clinical team at Loyola in Chicago, but
the orthodontist is local and placed a palatal expander in Oct.
He is recommending that an oral surgeon do the bone graft (the
surgeon's subspecialty is clefts), not the plastic
surgeon. The dentist at the clinic asked which we
preferred, and initally we said plastic surgeon. Now
I don't know which to choose.
Any advice? Is this done more by oral surgeons now?

I don't know who usually performs it, but when I had a bone graft done back in 1989, it was done by an oral surgeon.

I met a md who was born with a cleft lip and palate. I asked the same question. He said when it has to do with bone, hard tissue, and teeth always use an oral surgeon. When it deals with soft tissue use a plastic surgeon. My son had the bone graft done at the age of 9, which was 4 years ago and an oral surgeon did it. The results were great and yesterday we went back to the oral surgeon preparing for the next step rigid external distraction procedure. The oral surgeon looked at the remaining results of the bone graft done a few years ago and was very pleased how well it has done.

My gut feeling was that the oral surgeon would
be better, but have to convince the ex that this
is the way to go.
