Rigid External Distraction for Bilateral Cleft

Postby SVP623@aol.com » Thu Jan 10, 2002 9:26 pm

Need info on the RED system. my 13 year old son is supposed to have this procedure done this summer. Concerned about results, and how it may effect his speech. He had a pharyngeal flap done and wonder if it will change the results. Anyone who has had the Rigid External Distraction Procedure done, please write.

Come on over to the crouzon list and crouzon.org

This group has probably a dozen kids who have undergone distraction useing the RED or will be having it done. Some kids distracted as young as two and some in the 6-7 age group. A few coming up at age 4 for distaction. There is a good website for KLM Martin who manufacture one type of distractor. We have kids who went top school with it, turned their own screws, went to the beach ... most of the news has been good. Let me know if I can help more.
