cosmetic nose surgery

Postby laura » Wed Jan 17, 2001 3:12 pm

I am a 30 year old single mom of a healthy 9 year old.....i was born with a cleft lip and palette and have had my share of medical and social problems. I am at a point in my life now where i am considering having cosmetic surgery to correct my flattened nose.....i am wondering if other people have had this done as adults and how their surgeries turned out.....also if there is any type of public funding for such things as i am on a limited income and this would be considered cosmetic?

I know this is probably too late as I only just discovered this web site. But, I am a 32 year old woman with a cleft lip and palate and I've had the rhinoplasty--among other surgeries. The results are well worth it. I don't regret it at all. And as for paying for it, your insurance company should cover it because your nose is flattened from a birth defect--it should NOT be considered as purely cosmetic. I've had to deal with a couple of insurance companies over the years. One was great and one was not. The one that was not I fought until my case was sent to an independent group outside of the insurance company. End result: the insurance company HAD to pay for it. Try you insurance company and fight them if they try to deny it. The other alternative is that some surgeons have payment plans. Good luck!
